Curating Book Collections for Hotel Kids’ Clubs
8 Mar 2023
At the heart of many luxury family hotels is a superb kids club offering supervised activities and experiences for children of all ages to enjoy, while parents relax guilt-free. A thoughtful selection of books for these spaces can enhance the club’s programme of activities, educate young guests on the local culture and engage them around topics at the heart of the resort’s ethos, be it wellbeing, nature or creativity. Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to work with some hugely inspiring family-friendly hotels, that are each pushing the boundaries of luxury hospitality. We journeyed to three of them to explore the role of books in their kids’ clubs.
Our first stop is Patina Maldives, a Forbes Travel Guide five-star resort that celebrates nature, craft and connection, through tailor-made wellness journeys, captivating culinary experiences and immersive artwork by James Turrell. At the heart of Patina, Footprints is an experiential haven for children that encourages creativity and helps to develop confidence and inquisitiveness. Footprints puts the environment at the core of all it does, with activities focussing on ocean conservation, construction, creative play, well-being and culinary discovery. The book collection features lots of fiction to get imaginations soaring, together with non-fiction titles such as
The Little Book of Big History
by Ian Crofton and Jeremy Black to encourage curiosity in younger guests. Alongside their regular jam-packed roster of educational activities, Footprints hosts movie nights and parties, with an easter egg hunt scheduled for this coming easter holiday.~~

Another resort in the Maldives with plenty for all ages is Cora Cora Maldives, whose family villa features a slide directly into the lagoon and where snorkelling is second to none. At CoRa Kids® children are split into three age groups for yoga, dancing, cooking and treasure hunts across the island. When curating books for this space it was important for us to include something for everyone: lots of children’s classics and bestselling young adult fiction, as well as books that enhance Cora Cora’s commitment to the environment. Proven literary favourites at CoRa Kids® include
Commotion in the Ocean
and
Tip Tap Went the Crab
for the 3-5-year-olds,
Ocean Wildlife
for 6-7-year-olds and Yuval Zommer’s
The Big Book of Blue
and National Geographic’s
Ultimate Book of Sharks
for 9-12-year-olds. For more literary themed entertainment check in over Easter for an exciting Harry Potter-themed party!~~

Six Senses resorts around the world introduce children to the world of wellness and sustainability through a whole range of engaging and interactive activities at their award-winning kids’ clubs. Grow With Six Senses incorporates the resort’s six dimensions of wellness – social, environmental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and intellectual – allowing kids to reconnect with nature and others around them through food fermentation classes, kids yoga, food art, musical games and more. Ultimate Library considered all six dimensions when curating books for Grow With Six Senses Ibiza and library highlights include
What a Waste: Rubbish, Recycling,
and
Protecting our Planet
by Jess French, and
50 Ways to Feel Happy
by Val Payne, Peter Harper, and Vanessa King.~~

It’s small extras like books in rooms and library spaces that make a guest’s stay extra special, and many of our clients receive high praise for their book collections. For private clients they make a house their home.
